Can you drink an apple?
Apple juice tastes good. It’s good for you, too. Do you know why? Because 100% apple juice
comes from apples! Apple juice, apple cider, and applesauce are made from apples.
How is apple juice made? After apples are picked, inspectors examine them.
Molded or decayed apples are discarded. Good apples are washed to remove dirt.
Can you imagine an apple taking a bath or shower? Before apples are juiced, they take
baths for 1-2 minutes or as long as 30-45 minutes. They are scrubbed and sprayed with
fresh water. Now the apples are squeaky clean!
A special machine squeezes apple juice from washed apples. The squeezed juice is heat-treated
or pasteurized for safety. An inspector samples the apple juice. If the inspector says okay,
the juice is poured into lots of bottles and juice boxes. Then cases of 100% apple juice are
delivered to stores for kids and adults to buy and enjoy.
You can drink an apple when you drink a glass of 100% apple juice. Mmmm.
